The bridge deck comprises some 32 precast bridge beams mounted on elastomeric bearings. TECROC Epoxy Adhesive 305 was used in order to provide a high strength bond between the concrete beams and the bearings.
The three-part epoxy resin based material provides a rapid high strength bond, achieving a compressive strength of around 55 N/mm_ at one day and approximately 70 N/mm_ at one week.
The bearings have also been bedded using TECROCs high strength cementitious CS Grout. TECROC Epoxy Putty has been used to fill narrow gaps in a recess around the top bearings to restrain them
Situated at an important environmental site, the bridge, was designed in-house by Lancashire County Council, and includes environmental barriers on the stringcourse.
The scheme incorporates extensive environmental measures, new ponds and tunnels for amphibians, including the Great Crested Newt. Hibernacula for bats, nesting sites for Dippers, an extensive planting scheme and the translocation of woodland soils are also included.
The £8 million project is being financed by the County Council with assistance from English Partnerships, Chorley Borough Council and United Utilities. It is scheduled for completion in late 2007.
